Increase of 8.4% in power generation since 2014, says Piyush Goyal

Maximum growth of transmission capacity in India in past year, govt has exceeded annual target of transmission lines, the Union Minister said

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Coal, Power and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal on Sunday claimed that the Modi-led government is working for the welfare of the last man at the bottom of the pyramid, noting that there has been an overall increase in power generation by 8.4% since last year.

"Since 2014, there has been maximum growth of transmission capacity in India. We have exceeded this year's target of transmission lines. There has been an overall increase in power generation by 8.4% since last year. There has been a record power generation in the past one year," he added.

 

"This has been a year in which we have set the foundation of a permanent improvement in the working of government. The investors have developed a confidence in India in the past one year. This is a government that works decisively, honestly and works for the welfare of the last man at the bottom of the pyramid," he added.

Goyal also pointed out that over the last one year, the cost of LED bulbs has come down drastically.

"In September 2014, the cost of the LED bulb was Rs 215, in November Rs 149, in February Rs 102. There has been a 74% deduction in the purchase of LED bulb in seven months and it is our mission to replace all bulbs with LED bulbs within three years," Goyal said while addressing a press conference.

The NDA Government, which had had taken charge at the Centre on May 26 last year, completed one year in office on Tuesday.
