Australian foreign minister Julie Bishop has said that an increasing number of women in the country are traveling to Syria and Iraq to join their husbands fighting with the Islamic State (IS) terror group or marry a jihadist.
According to BBC, Bishop said that up to 40 Australian women have taken part in terrorist activities or are lending support to militant groups.
Bishop said that women accounted for nearly one-fifth of all foreign fighters in Syria and Iraq.
She said that IS militants had published instructions on the treatment of sexual slaves that include raping and beating women.
Bishop urged people to reach out to vulnerable youngsters to prevent them from doing such activities.
