The record opening stand between Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes propelled Bangladesh to earn a deserving draw against Pakistan and consequently dashed tourists' hopes of registering their first win on the tour in the first Test in Khulna on Saturday.

Resuming at the overnight position of 273, Bangladesh carried on in a controlled manner as they reached 300 mark in the 69th over.

While Kayes was dismissed off Zulfiqar Babar's delivery for his individual 150-run knock, Tamim (206) kept on consolidating the innings as he went on to score his maiden double century before falling prey to a Mohammad Hafeez's delivery.

Chasing a daunting 296-run deficit, Tamim and Kayes made a strong comeback as they led their team's counter-attack magnificently.

Pakistan fast bowler Junaid Khan scalped two wickets of Mominal Haque (21) and Mushafiqur Rahim (0).

However, the score kept moving along as Shakib-Al-Hasan led from the other end with his unbeaten 76 and was substantially supported by Mahmudullah (40) and Soumya Sarkar (33) to pile on the runs, taking the hosts to 555-6 before the players called it a draw.

Tamim was chosen as the Player of the Match for his stellar knock, which included 17 fours and seven sixes, and also for partnering in a record breaking 312-run partnership, the best in a second innings of a Test.
