Independent India's first voter S.S. Negi cast his vote along with his wife in Himachal Pradesh's Kalpa Village.
Ninety-seven-year old Negi, a resident of Kalpa Village, which falls in the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency of Himachal Pradesh, showed the victory sign after casting his vote.
"At 97, if I can vote, there's no reason why the youth cannot... I request everyone to vote," he said.
"At this age, I limp and reach the polling station...everyone should vote," he added.
Sixty-four Lok Sabha constituencies spread over seven states and 175 assembly constituencies in the Seemandhra region went to polls early in the morning amid tight security.
Today is the eighth and penultimate phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The Lok Sabha constituencies going to polls are 25 in Andhra Pradesh, 15 in Uttar Pradesh, seven in Bihar, six in West Bengal, five in Uttarakhand, four in Himachal Pradesh and two in Jammu and Kashmir.
