Heavy rain washed out the opening day's play of the series-deciding third and final Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo on Friday.

India had scored 50 for two, with opener Cheteshwar Pujara (19) and skipper Virat Kohli(14) at the crease after being asked to bat first under overcast conditions.

Early in the innings, the tourists had lost opener K.L Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane for two and eight runs respectively.

The Virat Kohli-led team levelled the series after claiming a 278-run win in the second match at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo.

Sri Lanka won the opening Test match in Galle by 63 runs.
