A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of arts and culture was signed between India and Australia here on Tuesday to enhance cultural relations between the two countries.

The MoU was signed between Ministry of External Affairs, Secretary (East), Anil Wadhwa and Australian Attorney-General and Minister of Arts George Brandis.

The agreement will promote cooperation through exchange of information, professional expertise, training and exhibitions in the field of culture.

It will also deepen understanding between the people, institutions and art genres and promote sound and sustainable artistic and cultural activities.

Five MoUs have been signed between India and Australia during Prime Minister Modi's visit to the country from November 16 to November 18.

Prime Minister Modi, who was in Canberra today, has now left for Melbourne after which he will depart for Fiji for the third leg of his three-nation, 10 day trip.
