India and China on Sunday exchanged notes on modalities for opening the second route for pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar yatra.

"The second outcome was that India and China during the discussions between Prime Minister (Modi) and President Xi had agreed to an additional route between India and Kailash Mansarovar through the Nathula Pass," said Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin.

"Today both the sides have exchanged notes which formalise the modalities of that additional route. It will begin this year in June. We have agreed to five groups of Indian pilgrims composed of 50 each, going through Nathula Pass to Kailash Mansarovar," he added.
