The government has decided to observe National Mourning on Sunday, March 29, as a mark of respect to Lee Kuan Yew, the former prime minister of Singapore.

The national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the country and there will be no official entertainment on the day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Singapore on March 29 to attend the funeral of Singapore's founding father.

He had earlier condoled the passing away of Yew, saying his life was one that taught valuable lessons to everyone.

Yew, who transformed the tiny island outpost into one of the wealthiest and least corrupt countries in Asia, died on March 24. He was 91 years old.
