India indigenising electronic warfare systems along expected lines: Dr.G.satheesh Reddy

Bangalore, Feb.23 (ANI): Dr.G.satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, said on Tuesday that research and development heads and various production agencies are doing reasonably well in efforts to indigenise electronic warfare systems leading to self reliance.

Dr. Reddy was speaking after inaugurating a conference here. He also released a souvenir on the occasion.

He said all such activities are aimed at ensuring the success of the "Make in India" movement, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dr. Reddy said that design, research and production agencies are involved in consolidated efforts to develop critical systems in various areas.

 

Highlighting the efforts of the defence laboratories in Hyderabad and work centers of BEL, Dr. Reddy, however, said, "There is a long way to go in achieving complete self reliance status."

He said that the goal of electronic warfare is to control the electro-magnetic spectrum through electronic attack and electronic support.

Electronic warfare is aimed at disrupting information flows through deception. soft and hard kill in order to achieve objectives, said Air Marshal P P Reddy, Chief of

the Integrated Defence Staff.

It was satted that the addition of Buy India IDDM i.e Indian Designed, Developed and Manufactured as a category will encourage investment in research and development and provide a long term approach to domestic and international defence markets.

Development and manufacture with a rider of higher indigenous content also allows industry to outsource design if it is inclined, said Dr. Reddy.

Mr.David Hime, President, A O C international U S A , said the challenges are indeed opportunity for serious researchers in various branches of science, including electronic warfare operators.

He dealt at length on the future capabilities in this area, because the future threat is from electronic warfare.

Dr Revanker, former Director DARE and president India chapter of A O C, said electronic warfare systems are the future requirement and emphasized on safety measures to be taken in the technological advancements.

Mr.J Shanhar Rao, senior DRDL scientist, Dr.Kalghatgi Director (Research and Development) BEL and Mr. T N Yadagir Rao, former associate director of DLRL were present on the occasion.

An exhibition was also arranged during the conference.
