Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday laid out his vision for India in front of the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, stating that India which is open for business and willing to embrace the world.
"[During the ASEAN-India Summit] the Prime Minister was able to explain his views on how he sees India progressing and seek the co-operation of various countries and their leadership in the India story. So he laid out his vision of an India which is open for business, an India which is ready to embrace the world and an India which is willing to go beyond what it has done this far in terms of being receptive to ideas and views," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin told the media here.
Akbaruddin also stated that Prime Minister Modi has identified solar projects as an area of synergy where both India and ASEAN could work together plagued by high levels of radiation in the region.
"He has talked not only in terms of cultural affinity but specific projects that he would think that ASEAN and India can work on. One of these is solar projects because he thinks that there are several ASEAN countries where radiation levels in terms of solar energy are high. They can be used for promoting co-operation, research, collaboration in terms of solar which is a clean form of energy which is treated as renewable," Akbaruddin said.
Speaking of Prime Minister Modi's meeting with leaders of various nations, Akbaruddin said that issues relating to terrorism and drug-trafficking were discussed.
"He raised the issue of trying to tackle, in a collaborative manner, issues relating to terrorism and issues relating to drug-trafficking and gun-running. There was receptivity in several countries with this. For example, the Prime Minister referred to India-Malaysia co-operation in the field of security, intelligence sharing as model which can be built on by other countries. Again, when he was talking on collaboration in security affairs and terrorism, there was receptivity from Thailand," Akbaruddin said.
Akbaruddin also spoke on the issues discussed during Prime Minister Modi's one-on-one interactions with the Singaporean Prime Minister and South Korean President.
"Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Lee had a very interesting discussion on exciting ideas for the future in terms of urban renewal. Prime Minister Modi said that whenever India thinks of urban rejuvenation, the Singapore model comes to mind. At the same time, Prime Minister Lee mentioned that numerous visitors from the state governments or from the Centre have been to Singapore adding that this is a good way of moving ahead," Akbaruddin said.
"A similar narrative was with the Republic of Korea President Park, who was very keen to link South Korea's proven industrial competence in terms of infrastructure and Indian needs in that regard," he added.
Prime Minister Modi is in Myanmar as part of his 10-day trip to three nations. During his trip, he also scheduled to participate in the East Asia Summit (EAS) here and the G-20 Summit in Brisbane.
