Pakistan said Friday that India has agreed to share the material evidence and the cross examination of prosecution witnesses for the Mumbai terror attack in 2008.
"The Indian Foreign Secretary, in his letter of 6th September 2016, has expressed India's readiness to share the material evidence, which Pakistan had been seeking for quite some time for the Mumbai trial," the Foreign Secretary said in a statement.
The statement said the material evidence and the cross examination of prosecution witnesses are needed to proceed further with the trial in Pakistan as per the law of the land.
"Legal aspects and modalities of the proposal contained in the Indian Foreign Secretary's letter are currently being examined by our legal experts," it added.
As per reports, earlier this month an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan issued notices to seven accused of 2008 Mumbai attack case, including LeT commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.
It is said that the prosecution and defence lawyers would present their arguments on September 22.
LeT operations commander Lakhvi, Abdul Wajid, Mazhar Iqbal, Hamad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jameel Riaz, Jamil Ahmed and Younis Anjum are accused of abetment to murder, attempted murder, planning and executing of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
The trial has, however, not moved expeditiously. Pakistan had postponed the trial of the suspects several times.
