Amid reports that the India-Pakistan Foreign Secretary level talks will take place within January this year, the Congress Party on Saturday hit out the Narendra Modi-led Government for its unplanned strategy, saying that New Delhi can't go ahead with the bilateral talks unless there is concrete evidence as to what is happening in Islamabad in the Pathankot attack probe.

"If the reports are true, then it is a very peculiar situation because day before yesterday we cancelled the talks because of the lack of action of Pakistan on the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) front and on all the evidence on the Pathankot attack," Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit told ANI.

"In the absence of any concrete evidence as to what is happening in Pakistan, can we really go ahead with the talks? Otherwise on some other pretext we have to call of the talks. It does not look like a well planned strategy. It looks like a knee-jerk reaction every now and then," he added.

The Congress leader also hit at the Centre for seeking help of the United States to find out that Pakistan equipped Pathankot attackers, saying that there was no need of it and help should be taken only to put pressure on Islamabad.

"Why we are taking help from America? We can take help to put pressure against Pakistan. But allowing interference of America in relations with Pakistan is not right," he said.

Earlier, describing Pakistan's crackdown against JeM members linked to the Pathankot attack as an "important and positive first step", both the nations had on Thursday agreed to reschedule Foreign Secretary-level talks, planned for January 15, and hold them in the "very near future".
