Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Meenakshi Lekhi on Sunday said that India's yoga legacy is a diplomatic advantage for the nation, adding that the recognition of the International Yoga Day by 177 countries has elevated the position of yoga across the world.

"When 177 countries approves of something then it is certainly becomes more important. There can be no bigger diplomatic advantage when India's legacy has been accepted globally. Yoga was also being spread personally by individuals in the past," Lelhi told ANI on the occasion of the first International Yoga Day.

The yoga celebrations are being organised after the United Nations had in December last year declared June 21 as International Yoga Day.

The proposal was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the UN General Assembly last year.
