ANI Kampala [Uganda]

Condemning terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, both India and Uganda have said that the international community needs to be more proactive in countering this menace.

Both nations underlined their shared concerns on terrorism and stressed that resolute and credible steps must be taken to eliminate safe havens and sanctuaries that provide shelter to terrorists and their activities.

Both nations also acknowledged the growing cooperation in defence and in particular the training of Uganda People's Defence Force personnel in various Indian Army training institutions under the Indian Technical and Economic Co-operation as well as deployment of Indian Military Training Team at Uganda's Senior Command and Staff College in Kimaka.

India commended Uganda as the President of the 69th UN General Assembly, for steering the need for reform of the UN Security Council and setting the stage for the commencement of text-based inter-governmental negotiations. Both sides underlined the need for urgent reforms of the UN Security Council and the importance of moving the reforms process forward.

These views were expressed during the recent official visit of Indian Vice President M. Hamid Ansari to Uganda.
