India falls under the middle e-government development index (EGDI) in a United Nations e-Government survey that evaluates online governing systems in member states of the UN organised every two years by UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

The four categories of the EGDI are 'very high e-government development index', 'high e-government development index', 'middle e-government development index' and 'low e-government development index'.

The three basic components of the survey include telecommunication connectivity, provision of online services and human capacity.

The Republic of Korea has been ranked first on the new United Nations e-Government index among 193 nations followed by Singapore and Australia, reports the Enterprise Innovation.

United States of America, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Japan, New Zealand, and Finland were among the top ten countries in the index.

Japan, ranking sixth on the index, was also among the top ten countries.

Most of the Asian countries came under the range of high EGDI including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia.
