Thirty-six army officials began a cycle rally from the northern Jammu town to New Delhi on Friday to commemorate the golden jubilee of India's victory over Pakistan in the 1965 war.
The expedition covering 1,211 kilometres will culminate in New Delhi on September 18.
"We have organised this cycle race to commemorate golden jubilee of 1965 war against Pakistan. We will be cycling from Jammu to Delhi. The race will end in Delhi and the final welcome programme will be held there," said Major Rakesh.
The participants include three officers, three Junior Commission Officers and 30 other rank officers belonging to the Tiger division of Indian army.
The 1965 war was the first battle fought post independence. The 17-day-war caused thousands of causalities on both sides and saw the biggest tank battle since World War II.
It is estimated that India lost 3,000 soldiers while 3,800 Pakistani soldiers were killed.The war started following an operation by Pakistan to infiltrate its men and soldiers. Fighting ended after the United Nations intervened.

Kashmir is claimed by both India and Pakistan and has been a major focus of tension in South Asia.
The war ended with a ceasefire followed with a Tashkent Declaration which was a peace agreement between two countries.
