The Indian challenge came to an early end as Parupalli Kashyap crashed out of the Japan Open Superseries after losing his quarterfinal contest against Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in Tokyo on Friday.
Unseeded Kashyap suffered a 21-14, 21-18 defeat to sixth seed Chen in the men's singles contest that lasted 42 minutes.
Earlier on Thursday, Kashyap had defeated compatriot Kidambi Srikanth 21-11, 21-19 in a grueling 45-minute contest to reach the quarter-finals.
India had endured an otherwise disappointing outing as world number one Saina Nehwal and world number 12 H S Prannoy bowed out of the tournament after losing their respective second round matches.
