Gold for plumbing! Silver for car dent repair! Yes.. you read it right, it's all happening at Worldskills International competition which is regarded as Olympics of Skills.
The 44th edition of Global Skill Championship is presently underway in Abu Dhabi, UAE. FICCI in association with Ministry of Skill Development has mounted a high power 30-member skill delegation from states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and industry leaders to Abu Dhabi.
The competition will see Indian contingents competing with global players to win pride for the country. FICCI has supported the initiative in Fashion Design trade and mobilised Indian delegation, Government of Kerela and Andhra Pradesh are pavilion partners for FICCI.
On Day 1, FICCI held high power meetings which resulted in several collaborations, partnership formations through signing of MoUs in skill development space. FICCI also anchored country to country level partnerships for promoting and strengthening Skills Competition & setting up of Centre of Excellence for the Training of Trainers in India.
In addition, FICCI facilitated several key meetings between NSDC, MSDE and Russia and World Skills team to increase India's participation in various skill competitions in Russia. Deliberations led to agreement for enhanced cooperation between India and Russia in World Skills.
FICCI also facilitated meetings of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Arunachal Pradesh delegation with various stakeholders of Brazil and Russia with a focus on developing skill development initiatives at state levels.
The FICCI delegation also visited premier International Centre for Culinary Arts (ICCA), Dubai, which is one of its kind institute to impart vocational training, specifically in culinary art. ICCA was established in 2005 and is known for its quality of training and standards. Conceptualized on Australian model, ICCA has wide array of culinary courses. They are catering to the rising demand of good quality and hygienically safe food preparation.
At Worldskills, Indian participants are competing in more than 25 trades under the tricolour who will become trend setters and aspirational for millions of youth back home in India.
