Indian Customs officials seized gold bars worth Rs.5 crores from three passengers at the airport here on Friday.
They were trying to allegedly smuggle the precious metal from Andhra Pradesh.
The three passengers had come into Hyderabad from Singapore. They have been arrested and are being interrogated, said Customs Department Inspector B.V. Prasad.
"They (custom officers) were watching the profiles of the three passengers. They had certain suspicion about their behaviour, and therefore, they detained them. After a search, it was found that each of the three passengers who had come from Singapore, had six kilograms of gold, a total of 18 kilograms," he said.
Prasad confirmed that the seizure was not based on intelligence.
Gold is being smuggled in from Dubai, Singapore and Thailand in most of the cases involving India.
