Harmanpreet Kaur smashed a match winning 31-ball 46 as Indian women T20 team claimed a five-wicket win over their Australian counterparts in the opening game of the three-match series at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday.
The tourists pulled off their highest ever chase in T20 internationals as they chased down a target of 141 with eight balls to spare. India surpassed their own 127-run chase against New Zealand last July, News.com.au reported.
Australia failed to take wickets at regular junctures as Veda Krishnamurthy (35) and Smriti Mandhana (29) built a solid 55-run partnership for the second wicket before Kaur, who was adjudged the Player of the Match, took away the game from the hosts.
Earlier, Australia made 140 for five, thanks to Alyssa Healy's quick-fire 41 not out off just 15 balls, which included five fours and two sixes.
The two sides will meet again in Melbourne on Friday and Sydney on Sunday.
