On India's 67th Independence Day, the Navy paid tribute on Thursday to sailors who had lost their lives during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan naval war.

The Indo-Pakistani Naval war of 1971 was one of the most aggressive naval battles fought by forces of the two countries.

The war between India and Pakistan was the direct military conflict between the two countries, which eventually led to to the formation of Bangladesh out of what was then East Pakistan.

The last big loss for the navy was the sinking of the INS Khukri frigate by a Pakistani navy torpedo during the 1971 war.
