The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday informed that Indian nurses stuck in Tikrit city of Iraq are safe and unharmed despite reports of firing and bombing in the vicinity of the building they are staying in.
"There has been bombing and firing in the vicinity of their building. They have sought refuge in their basement. They are in a delicate situation. But as of now, they remain safe and unharmed," .
He said that information regarding the nurses' location has been shared with the Iraqi Government.
He informed that the ministry has bought tickets for 233 people and is facilitating their return. He further said that around thousand Indian nationals have expressed their wish to come back, but still a significant number wants to stay back.
