Lakshmi Logathassan, an indian-origin law student from the University of Western Sydney, has won the NSW 2014 'Young Woman of the Year' award.

Logathassan came up with 'The Laptop Project', a program which takes government-funded laptops that are no longer needed by Australian students and sends them to students in rural and remote schools of Kenya and Sri Lanka, the Indian Sun reported.

The 18-year-old student has helped donate about 250 laptops till date.

Lakshmi travelled to Sri Lanka to teach students to speak and read English and volunteered for a number of charities, including Amnesty International and The Australian Red Cross.
