CPI (M) leader Annie Raja today expressed her displeasure over the state of affairs regarding crimes against women in India by stating that Indian women are facing a war like situation.

Annie Raja told ANI, "I think the UP government is sleeping, on one hand the atrocities on women are on a rise and on the other hand there is communal tension everywhere. Samajwadi Party government should be careful to see that such incidents do not happen in UP."

"This is why my organization, National Federation of Indian Women has been repeatedly saying that Indian women are facing a war like situation," she added.

According to her, Indian women were under attack from everywhere, whether it was the judiciary, executives, legislature or the society.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Shobha Oza also said today that rape cases across the country were increasing and must be dealt with stern and strict action.

Oza told ANI, "The rape cases across the nation are on a rise and the governments ought to be sensitive towards this. The government, the police and the judiciary must deal with the rape cases sternly and strictly."

Their comments come in the backdrop of a reported gang rape and forced conversion of a woman in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh and accusation of sexual harassment against a Madhya Pradesh High Court judge by an Additional Sessions Judge.
