Indo-Pak talks are important to solve the Kashmir issue: Shabir Shah

Shah met Paki High Commissioner Abdul Basit on Monday which did not go down well with the central govt in Delhi

ANI New Delhi

Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah today expressed his disappointment over the cancellation of foreign secretary-level talks.

Shah asked, "We held talks before also, so why this step now?"

"I think this needs to be addressed, because Kashmir is a bone of contention and there were three wars fought over Kashmir. It is a dispute. World over it is said to be a long pending dispute. So, there should be talks and the problem should be resolved," he added.

Shah said "I thought Narendra Modiji is very diligent and he would support this (talks with Pakistan envoy), but I feel that he was under a lot of pressure".

Shah met Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit on Monday .

Reacting to the government's decision on cancellation of talks, Majid Memon of the NCP said it is the right step keeping in view that Pakistan always violates its stand.

"I think that the government has taken a right step by sending a strong message that well if you want to mean business of better relationship, if you want to solve the impending issues between ourselves in a just way, then you must not behave in the manner you have been behaving. Inviting separatist leaders is actually wrong message. Let there be talks between the governments," Memon.
