Listing out the primary goals of the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government on Monday, President Pranab Mukherjee said infiltration in the north-east will be dealt with on a priority basis.

"Infiltration in north east will be dealt with on a priority basis," he said.

On the administrative and economic fronts, Mukherjee said that the national e-governance plan will be expanded to make both more efficient and people-friendly.

"The GDP is less than five percent and inflation is at an unacceptable level. We will work together to usher economy, accelerate job creation, and employment opportunities will be expanded by promoting tourism," said Mukherjee.

"The government will undertake reforms to ease business. The tax regime will be made non-adversarial, reforms will be made to help businesses and FDI (foreign direct investment) will be allowed where jobs can be created," he said.

He also said that the government will work towards increasing connectivity in the country.

"The government will launch diamond quadrilateral network of railways, low-cost cost airports will be developed to promote air connectivity. International civil nuclear agreements will also be operationalised," said Mukherjee.

He also said that the government recognises the central role of science and technology in improving the quality of life.

"It will encourage and incentivize the use of technology and nurture innovation and will establish institutes of technology for rural development," he said.

Describing the River Ganga as a part of India's rich cultural heritage, Mukherjee said it is the lifeline of millions.

"However, it continues to be polluted. The government is committed to providing a clean, perennial Ganga," he added.

He further said that the government will be working on strengthening the defence sector.

"The country is proud of its armed forces and we will strengthen defence preparedness by modernising or armed forces. The government will do everything to repay the debt to our brave soldiers," Mukherjee said.
