England will rest paceman Mark Wood, who has been suffering from ankle injury, for the third and series decider Test against Pakistan.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news, saying Wood needs some rest to recover from his injury and he might undergo surgery as well, Sport24 reported.

Seamer Liam Plunkett could replace Wood in the squad.

Meanwhile, middle-order batsman James Taylor is likely to play his first Test after the gap of three years, replacing wicket-keeper batsman Jos Butler.

Pakistan have currently taken a 1-0 lead in the series following their 178-run win in the second Test in Dubai.

The first match between the two sides ended in a draw.

England will now be aiming to level the series when they lock horns with Pakistan in the series decider from November 1 at Sharjah.
