Surrey's batsman Kevin Pietersen will not be playing this year's IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad after sustaining injuries to his calf and Achilles in the County Championship match against Leicestershire.

Pietersen was due to fly to India on May 15 to play for the SRH, but his latest injuries will keep if off the field for at least two weeks, the BBC reported.

Despite scoring 355 not out against Leicestershire, he was earlier told that he would not be selected for the England national side by recently appointed England director of cricket, Andrew Strauss.

The South Africa-born batsman, who has not played for England after being sacked in February 2014, was brought at the IPL auction by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs two crore.

However, Incoming ECB chairman Colin Graves had said that Pietersen could still make a comeback for the national side if he joined English county and scored runs.

As a result, Pietersen pulled out of a deal with Hyderabad and had

signed for Surrey, before Strauss dashed his hopes.
