Veteran Australian pacer Ryan Harris has revealed that he thought his Test was over long before he bowled Australia to victory during a tense final hour of the last day of the third Test against South Africa at Newlands.
Two days after he could hardly walk, the injury-plagued veteran bowled Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel in the space of three balls to snatch Australia a 2-1 series victory at Newlands with just 4.3 overs to spare.
According to News.com.au, Harris, who finished with 4-32 from 24.3 overs, said that he thought he would not be able to bowl another over as he was suffering from a sore hip flexor, adding that although he could get going with some painful treatment, he had to endure the agony while bowling during the match.
The report mentioned that Harris was able to bowl just one over with the second new ball late on day three when his right hip joined his knee and its floating bone in protest and he finished up in so much pain he found it difficult to move.
Harris revealed that he was being 'dry-needled' and had a large quantity of fluid drained out of his knee in a painful treatment, although he added that to come out on top despite the pain made the treatment worth the win.
Harris arrives home in Brisbane on Friday, heads to Melbourne on Monday, and will have bone spurs and floating bone removed from his knee on Tuesday, the report added.
