England pacer Mark Wood is likely to miss his side's international season after facing the prospect of further surgery on his left ankle.

The 26-year-old flew home from his side's Test series against Pakistan in November to have an ankle surgery, but with constant troublesome ankle, it seems that he might have to go under the knife again.

Wood, who had an injection earlier this month in order to resolve his current problem, admitted he had to operate the back of his ankle at some point or another, the Guardian reported.

The fast bowler, who got his first central contract from England after his brilliant performance in the Ashes, has been hit by a series of ankle injuries throughout his career.

England will begin their international season with the Test series against Sri Lanka from May 19 and conclude it with a T20 match against Pakistan on September 7.
