As many as 14 personnel with minor injuries were rescued from INS Betwa on Monday.
The rescued personnel are said to be stable at present while diving is in progress to look for two missing crew members.
Indian Navy PRO D.K. Sharma said the INS Betwa while undergoing a refit at the Naval dockyard Mumbai slipped on the dock blocks, adding the extent of damage is being assessed.
"We have never had such an incident before. Two of our jawans are missing. Divers have been deployed," he added.
He also said it is for the first time that such an incident has taken place.
"We have never had such an incident before," the PRO said.
INS Betwa, named after Madhya Pradesh's river Betwa, participated in two major operations namely Operation Cactus and Operation Sukoon, launched for rescuing Maldivian hostages in 1988 and evacuation of Indian citizens from Lebanon to Cyprus in 2006 respectively.
