Suspected cadres of the KCP outfit recently attacked the residence of the director of National Institute of Technology, Sarungbam Birendra, in the Nambol Bazaar Makha Leikai area of Manipur.
One grenade exploded near the outer wall of the residence, while the other one didn't go off. It was later disposed off by the bomb disposal team of the Manipur Police.
While there was no casualty, the explosion damaged the building.
"There was no threat or demand from any militant group. We move around freely and without fear here, and we never expected that such a thing could happen. After the incident, we are feeling scared," said Sunita Devi, wife of the NIT Director
Students and teachers staged a sit-in protest in the institute premises to condemn the grenade attack on the director's residence.
They requested the insurgent outfits not to disrupt education.
"We want peace and progress, but if such incidents happen, then we cannot move forward. So let us make peace, and I appeal to people who have done this to make NIT a violence-free zone," said Raj Kumar Lalit Singh, Registrar, NIT.
Condemning the incident Jotishraj, a student, said: "Such incidents should not happen. It wastes our time as we have classes, and such incidents disturb us a lot, and create problems for us."
Bomb attacks, killings, kidnapping and extorting of money by militant groups has made life difficult for the people in Manipur.
They are tired of living in fear and want the insurgent outfits to give up violence so that they can lead a normal life.
