Guwahati recently hosted the "Leo International Trade Fair" every year with an aim to provide a wider platform for traders and artisans to exhibits their products under one roof.

Participants from Pakistan, Thailand and Bangladesh, and various Indian states set up over 100 stalls at the venue.

Ashma, a trader from Bangladesh, said India's north east region is a potential market for doing business.

Ashma, who has been visiting north east for the last three years, has exhibited her products at different fairs in the region.

"It is very good to do business here. People are very good to interact and they really like our products like sari, cotton products. So, we can do a good business here," she said.

The fair gives the locals here an opportunity to buy a variety of bamboo and cane products, jewellery, home appliances, bags and decorative items.

It is also a good platform for artisans to showcase their handiworks.

"It is a very good opportunity for us. We do a good business. It is very good for budding entrepreneurs, and those who are unemployed as they can do a similar business like me," said Jitu, a local businessman, here.

Tasmeen from Bangladesh said his products are in great demand.

"There is a lot of demand in Shillong and Dimapur, because the people there are more fashionable and we always update our products. So, they like it," he said.

Trade fairs provide a platform to local artisans and crafts persons to directly interact with the customers and find a suitable market for them.

Moreover, such events create awareness about the abundant resources available in the north-east and helps in attracting investors to the region.
