The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday took a jibe at the Congress Party's march to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to highlight the 'growing intolerance' and reminded the grand old party of the atrocities which took place in the country post the assassination of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said the intolerance is important, but added that the Congress should practice what they preach.

"Every time anyone comes out with a comment on the Nehru-Gandhi family immediately the Congress leadership becomes intolerant on basic comments on the Nehru-Gandhi family. So, the issue of intolerance is an important issue but they should practice what they are hoping to preach," Kohli to ANI.

"As far as the Congress party is concerned, they are in their rights if they want to take out any march or a protest march. However, the larger issue is that on November 2, people remember the kind of atrocities that took place after Indira Gandhi's death and the massacre of thousand of Sikhs people across the country and particularly in Delhi. So, a little tolerance on that issue, speaking on that issue, recalling the emergency and intolerance that we saw perpetuated against everyone are the big issue," he added.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi will lead a march of party leaders to the Rashtrapati Bhavan today to appeal to President Pranab Mukherjee to use his constitutional powers to end the 'atmosphere of intolerance' in the country.

The move comes in the backdrop of protests by the artists, writers and scientists over the "growing intolerance' post the Dadri lynching case, beef row and other similar incidents.
