Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Thursday confirmed that an investigation into the violent altercation between Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and Airport Authority of India (AAI) staffers at the Calicut International Airport in Kozhikode has been initiated.
"The Kozhikode airport incident is very unfortunate. Investigation into the case has been initiated. Initial reports suggest that a CISF jawan was taken away by a group of people and killed. A case has been registered for murder and rioting," Rijiju told the media.
"As per initial reports, the CISF jawan was killed by his own revolver, which had been snatched away from him," he added.
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) confirmed that full normalcy has been restored to the Calicut International Airport after the incident.
Due to the squabble, five flights were diverted from the airport. Meanwhile, senior officers from the MoCA, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, the AAI and the Security Directorate have been rushed to take full control of the situation and investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, media reports have stated that 15 CISF and AAI staffers have been booked.
