Incumbent Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president N. Ramachandran on Thursday announced that he will not contest the president elections for the body which is slated to be held on December 14.

Ramachandran in a statement said, "It is not my intention to stand for election as president of the IOA in the ensuing elections."

He reasoned that he has taken the decision to abide by the constitution of IOA.

"I am nearing 70 and I intend to abide by the Constitution of the IOA and the guidelines framed by the IOC. I firmly believe that my successor should have a full term of four years and I wish him and the new team all the best," the statement read.

He has been serving as president for IOA since February 9, 2014.

The last date for filing candidature nominations for IOA elections is November 29.
