Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper Gautam Gambhir played a superb knock of unbeaten 72 off 49 balls to guide his team to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab in their first home game of the Indian Premier League here on Thursday evening.

Chasing 171, Gambhir hammered the opposition with some fantastic shots as his overhauled the target in just 16.3 overs.

Player of the Match Sunil Narine, who opened the innings alongside Gambhir, made 37 off 18 balls. Manish Pandey remained unbeaten on 25 while Robin Uthappa made 26.

Earlier, Indian pacer Umesh Yadav made a successful comeback as he scalped four wickets to help KKR restrict Kings XI Punjab for 170/9.

Put in to bat, Kings XI Punjab had a spectacular start with 10 runs from first over as Manan Vohra (28) and Hashim Amla (25) put on their second successive fifty-plus opening partnership.

However, they lost wickets at crucial moments which didn't allow them to reach the target where they should have been.

The win for the KKR came after a painful loss against Mumbai Indians and they now have two victories from three games. For Kings XI Punjab, it was the first loss of the season after two emphatic wins.
