Mumbai Indians, under the proactive leadership of Rohit Sharma, will begin their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign when they take on Rising Pune Supergiants in their opening clash at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium here today evening.

It will also mark former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's first game as non-captain in the league.

Dhoni has played all his 143 IPL matches while leading a side - Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants - in the previous editions of the tournament.

He is also one of the three captains to have won the cash-rich T20 league twice. Under Dhoni, CSK won the IPL in 2010 and 2011 while the Champions League in 2010 and 2014.

Rising Pune Supergiants, who managed to win just five games in their debut season last year, will be playing under new captain Steven Smith.

It will be the third match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians in IPL. Both teams have won one match each. Supergiants defeated Mumbai Indian by nine wickets at Mumbai while Rohit Sharma's men avenged the loss with a comfortable eight-wicket win in the second encounter last season.
