Iran has started screening social networking sites as part of a government project, censoring images on photo sharing application Instagram for being "offensive".

The project started on Wednesday with immoral content being filtered on Instagram.

According to News24, it is not necessary any longer to block the users since offensive content was being filtered successfully in Iran.

According to telecommunications minister Mahmoud Vaezi, government plan to filter content on the most pressurized network Instagram has been successful.

Authorities have often times blocked access to social networking sites since they are used by government critic and opposition groups.
