With world nations racing against a deadline that is set to expire on Monday midnight, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has reportedly struck an optimistic note saying that a deal can be reached.

Kerry said that after his last meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, he was 'hopeful' that an agreement on the country's nuclear programme could be reached. He admitted that a 'few tough things' remained in the way of a deal but added that they were getting to some real decisions, reported Fox News.

The talks have been extended thrice so far since the first deadline of March 31 was missed.

The negotiators are trying to reach a deal to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions in lieu of lifting the economic sanctions.
