Iraqi forces have recaptured the provincial government headquarters in Tikrit from Islamic State (IS) militants in the fight to recapture the city of Tikrit.
According to the Guardian, an army major general said that the government complex in Tikrit has been cleared by Iraqi forces.
It has been the most significant advance in Tikrit since the government forces started the operation to retake the city in March.
Now, IS militants control the northern and eastern areas of the city of Tikrit.
The provincial governor Raad al-Juburi confirmed the recapture of the government headquarters, saying that Iraqi flags now flew over various recaptured buildings in the city.
