Senior Indian Revenue Service officer Sushil Chandra will take over as the new chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the policy-making body for the Income Tax department.

Incumbent chairperson Rani Singh Nair, who took over on August 1, will retire from services after being at the top post for three months.

Chandra, a 1980-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax cadre), is at present working in the board as a member.

The officer is credited with getting the I-T department success under the one-time black money window.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had early this month approved the name of Chandra as the CBDT chairman to replace Nair.

The CBDT, which has six members apart from the chairman, is responsible for framing policy and administrative issues related to direct taxes and the Income Tax department.
