The Islamic State (IS) has reportedly claimed responsibility for an attack on police officials in south Yemen that killed 29 people, including 27 members of the security forces.
The terror group issued the claim on Monday in an online statement attributed to its branch in Lahj province. The attack followed multiple suicide bombings at Huthi Shi'ite mosques on Friday that killed 142 people. It was claimed by IS' Sana'a branch in Yemen, reported News 24.
The report said that the attacks indicated the group's growing activity in the turbulent region.
The attacks in the capital and in Lahj the same day were the first attacks claimed by the IS in Yemen, where its rival Al Qaeda group enjoys the reputation of being the most prominent extremist organisation.
A statement posted by the group on Twitter said that its "lions" in Lahj "liquidated 29 apostates" among members of the security forces.
The terror outfit also posted gory pictures of policemen killed in the attack on Islamist websites.
