Islamic State (IS) in Syria has executed 100 of its own militants who have tried to flee from their headquarters in the country's Raqqa province.

An activist opposed to both ISIS and the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad said that he had "verified 100 executions" of foreign IS militants who tried to flee from the extremist group's capital, reported News24.

IS militants in Syrian province of Raqqa said that they have ordered their military police to clamp down on foreign jihadists who do not report for duty.

According to reports, some fighters have been disillusioned due to the fighting in Syria. Many homes in Syria have been raided and various jihadists have been arrested so far.

Five Britons, three French, two Germans and two Belgians were being held prisoner by IS and complained that they ended up fighting against other rebel groups rather than Assad's regime.
