Reportedly every year 60,000 people die from viral infection that is mostly caught from dog bites but the Global Alliance for Rabies Control has claimed that mass vaccination could make rabies history.

The organization, Health for Animals has argued that protecting dogs id the most cost-effective way to protect people, reported the BBC.

Carel du Marchie Sarvaas, executive director of the global animal medicines association HealthforAnimals, said that he does not know if there's a disease which is so easily preventable for so little money that affects so many people.

He added that the vaccines are cheap and by spending eight dollars could vaccinate 20 dogs for a year.

Sarvaas further said that the most cost-effective and efficient way to do it is to vaccinate dogs, but then there are barriers,

Talking about the issue, executive director of the Global Alliance for Rabies Control Louis Nel said that they can make rabies history if international institutions invested more in mass canine vaccinations.
