Islamic State (IS) militants have claimed that they have taken over the al Ghardabiya airport in the Libyan city of Sirte.
According to BBC, the announcement was made by the IS and a Libyan militia that pulled out from the coastal city's airport on Thursday.
Last week, large parts of Sirte, hometown of former Libyan president Muammar Gaddafi, had been taken over by IS militants.
The militant group also claimed to have seized the Great Man Made River water project.
The al-Ghardabiya airport housed an airbase that was seized by militias after being bombed by Nato forces in 2011 during the battle to oust Gaddafi.
