Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has destroyed another ancient temple in the Syrian city of Palmyra, said activists and a group monitoring Syrian conflict.

According to The Guardian, ISIS militants have targetted the temple of Bel in the recent attack.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the extent of the damage caused was unknown till now.

It is the second temple that ISIS extremists have targetted in the month of August.

On August 25, ISIS militants had detonated explosives in the ancient Baal Shamin temple. The act was condemned by UNESCO, calling it a war crime aimed at wiping out a symbol of Syria's diverse cultural heritage.
