Mumbai City FC on Tuesday announced the signing of Brazilian striker Thiago Cunha as a replacement for injured Gaston Sangoy for the ongoing third edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).
Argentine forward Sangoy was ruled out of the season after suffering from a fractured right foot.
Meanwhile, Brazilian striker Cunha has played in top leagues like the Brazilian Seria A and AFC Champions League amongst others. He won the 2011 Brazilian Pernambucano State Championship and the 2010 Brazilian Paraibano State Championship.
With 45 appearances in his last two seasons, the 31-year-old proved to be a valuable asset to his teams with a good goal scoring record.
Commenting on the replacement, Mumbai City FC head coach Alexandre Guimaraes said, "While losing Gaston to injury was a big blow, in Thiago we have found a great replacement. He has a brilliant goal scoring record and we are confident he is going to be a big asset to the club in the remainder of the season."
Mumbai City, who are currently at fourth spot in standings, will now lock horns with Atletico de Kolkata at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata today.
