Islamic State kills 23 Iraqi soldiers, Sunni fighters in Iraq

At least 23 Iraqi soldiers and government-allied Sunni militiamen were killed on Sunday by Islamic State militants.

Reports said that the attack took place in Iraq's Anbar Province.

In all, 17 soldiers and six Sunni militia fighters lost their lives in the attack that took place in the rural district of Jaramshah, Iraq military was quoted, as saying on condition of anonymity.

They said IS fighters used suicide bombings and mortar shells and that chief of army operations in Anbar, Maj-Gen Qassim al-Dulaimi, was lightly wounded in the attack.
