The Israeli offensive on Gaza will continue according to Israel's security needs even after the tunnels built by Hamas have been destroyed, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the BBC, Netanyahu said that Islamist militant group Hamas will pay an intolerable price for attacks on Israel. His reaction is being seen as a great setback to the peace process that was slated to begin in Egypt.

Tensions soared in Gaza as Israel continued to hunt for a soldier, Hadar Goldin, who went missing on Friday, the report added.

Meanwhile, thousands gathered in protest outside the White House in Washington, demanding the United States government to stop aiding Israel in Gaza conflict and to oust Israel from Palestine.

Ever since Israel launched an offensive on Gaza, 1,670 Palestinians and 65 Israelis have died. Almost 8,900 Palestinians have also been injured.

Numerous ceasefires have been agreed to but none have lasted for long with both sides accusing each other of violating the agreements.
